City Guide: 24 Hours in New York City

This spring, I went on a short trip to New York City to catch the 1:54 art fair and Frieze. My mother came with me, and since she hadn’t been to New York in over thirty years, I (for the first time ever!) took the time to plan out an itinerary that would make it possible to show her my favourite corners of the city in a limited amount of time. I found myself in NYC again a few weeks later and went back to the same places because they were so good… There are probably loads of great places that I haven’t yet discovered (let me know in the comments!), but here is a list of my current staples:

Where to eat:

Maialino – rustic Italian, relaxed dinner vibe, next to Rose Bar if you fancy having a drink after.

Butcher’s Daughter – fun and healthy brunch place with lots of outdoor seating at the Soho location.

Sadelle’s – great place for a traditional bagel lunch.

De Maria – beautiful interior and unique menu with lots of healthy options. Great for brunch or lunch.

The Smile – cozy brunch place with great egg dishes.

Ludlow House – if you have a Soho House membership, you should take advantage of it and go to Ducked Up on the top floor… The peking duck is ridiculously good here. The vegetarian-heavy restaurant downstairs is also great for casual dinners or long afternoon work sessions.

Carbone – great high-end Italian food with a cool vibe – make sure you book this one in advance!

Coffee etc.:

Blue Bottle – one of my favourite coffee shops from California; I like the Lower East Side location the best!

Happy Bones – they use Oatly milk – if you don’t like dairy, take advantage of this!

L’estudio – cool spot to grab a coffee, and maybe have a little snack…

Stumptown at the Ace Hotel – great place to work as they have a lot of seating and free wifi in the lobby area of the hotel. Croissants here are also top notch!

Intelligentsia at the High Line Hotel – nice outdoor patio with lots of seating… Close to the High Line if you want to see the city from a different perspective.

Two Hands – good coffee and nice healthy food options if hungry.

Ludlow Coffee Supply – serves Macademia nut milk and makes a solid cup of coffee… Perfect place to people watch in LES!

Cha Cha Matcha – self-explanatory – good matcha and fun vibes.

Fast:

Sweetgreen – amazing salads and grain bowls… A great option when you are exhausted and need something healthy and quick.

Greecologies – perfect for a light breakfast or afternoon snack. Their traditional unstrained yoghurt with berries and walnuts is the bomb! Lots of indoor and outdoor seating.

Mimi Cheng’s Dumplings – these are completely addictive so sample with caution!! Perfect spot for a pre-dinner snack… And yes, that’s a thing!

ByChloe – vegan fast food that is far from healthy but super satisfying…

Van Leeuwen – if you see this truck parked anywhere, run towards it and forget everything else. The vegan pistachio, chocolate and mint chip flavours are literally my favourite on the planet.

Where to stay:

Hotel Americano – clean modern/ Japanese aesthetic and well-sized rooms.

Ludlow Hotel – trendy atmosphere with quiet and comfortable rooms; the location is super convenient if you like being able to walk around the city. The De Sede sofas in the lobby are reason enough to stay here.
